Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590)

The Australian Department of Home Affairs offers the Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590) to parents or close relatives of international students under 18 years of age, allowing them to accompany and care for the student while they study in Australia.

 

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a relative of the student applying for a student visa;

  • Be at least 21 years old and of good character;

  • Meet health and financial capacity requirements;

  • Student guardians are generally not permitted to bring dependants under 6 years old to Australia, unless special circumstances apply;

  • Except in special cases, the student guardian must have one of the following relationships with the student:

    • Spouse

    • Child or adopted child

    • Parent (father or mother)

    • Sibling or half-sibling

    • Stepchild

    • Stepparent

    • Grandparent (including maternal/paternal)

    • Grandchild

    • Aunt or uncle

    • Niece or nephew

    • Step-grandparent

    • Step-grandchild

    • Step-aunt or step-uncle

    • Step-niece or step-nephew
